AUPE members rally in Edmonton in support of bargaining committee

PV Alberta Bureau

Members of the Alberta Union of Public Employees (AUPE) rallied and marched outside their workplace at ATB Place and Telus House in Edmonton on July 30, to show their willingness to strike if a deal cannot be reached with the Government of Alberta.

The union is currently in collective bargaining with the provincial government for more than 23,000 front-line government services workers.

AUPE entered into enhanced mediation with the public service commission last week. Should the mediation fail to produce a deal before August 29, the union will be legally able to exercise its strike mandate in the first week of September.

The July 30 rally is one of a growing number of member-led job site actions happening over the coming days and weeks.

As one participant said, “We are going to show them what a strike line looks like.”
