WFTU calls for March 30 actions in solidarity with Palestinian people

The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) Presidential Council, which met at its annual meeting on March 1-2 in São Paulo, Brazil expresses its full solidarity and support to the struggling people of Palestine, who are victims of the unprecedented brutality of the murderous state of Israel, with mass murder of civilians, uprooting from their land and ethnic cleansing.

The ongoing bloodshed had been going on and escalating since October 7 and has already resulted in tens of thousands of people losing their lives and many more injured. This makes the need to intensify our actions of solidarity more urgent than ever before.

The massacre in Palestine, the brutal and unacceptable bombing of hospitals and the killing of civilians are crimes which are committed with the provocative tolerance that Israel receives from the US, the European Union and their rest of their allies. While this new Nakba is taking place, we demand that the international community take urgent decisions to prevent the genocide.

The root cause of this situation is the occupation and illegal settlement of the occupied Palestinian territories by Israel and the continuous, daily crimes and the blockades of Gaza that have been committed against the Palestinian people for decades.

The consistent and principled support and solidarity to the heroic Palestinian people has always been a priority for the international class-oriented trade union movement. It is clear that the only way to secure and consolidate peace and security in Palestine and Israel, but also in the wider Middle East, is to immediately end the Israeli occupation and settlement in the occupied Arab territories, as provided for in the UN resolutions, and to establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital and guarantee the right of return of Palestinian refugees. At the same time, it is also clear that as the imperialist aggression intensifies, our solidarity must intensify too.

While Palestinians in Gaza live without food, water and electricity for months, while an unprecedented murderous attack is being carried out to flatten the Gaza Strip, workers from every corner of the globe are in a continuous struggle supporting the Palestinian people. The militant trade unions join their voices with the Palestinian people, condemn the imperialist hypocrisy and demand an immediate ceasefire.

The WFTU, on the occasion of March 30 which is observed as “Palestinian Land Day,” calls on its affiliates and friends, class-oriented and militant trade unions around the world to organize mobilizations and demonstrations in the streets and in the workplace, under the slogan, “Free Palestine! Stop the Genocide!”
